Agency sets up clandestine affairs for men and women

As the debate around president Zuma’s
polygamy rages, some supporters claim its more honest than men who
have affairs.
One Joburg woman disagrees. Cherie Green
runs About Lovers
a confidential agency which facilitates
women and men to have affairs.
“Marriage and affairs are two completely
different constructs. Affairs are about the danger and the thrill of
the unknown, whereas the rules and roles in marriage are clear and
familiar and defined by society.”
Green has been running About
Lovers
for more than ten years.”I know exactly
what men want when looking for an extra-marital
affair or liaison. The general assumption is that men merely want
more than one sexual partner through affairs , or another couple of
wives; the only difference being that one is honest and the other
deceitful.
“But a marriage is a societal way of
saying it is an accepted union, seen as wholesome and acceptable,
while an affair is exactly the opposite-it is tabu.
“
According to Green, research
conducted recently in the
US
shows that 75% of men had at least one extra- marital relationship
or liaison in the first 3 years of marriage. For women that
statistic is 55%.
Green says Zuma’s marriages cannot be
compared to mistresses. Zuma is an African man displaying status and
wealth.
Green’s agency is not for chancers. There
are doctors.advocates, executives and academics. The men must be
older than 34 while the women range from 21 to 45.Around 75% of the
men are married; the rest are single or divorced.
“These are very busy people who don’t
have the time or inclination to seek out women”.
So Green screens the women very
carefully. They must not be looking for a serious or long term
relationship.
Green says she is not running a
matchmaking social club for singles.Instead its an exclusive meeting
or introduction business.
